Wow. This weekends weddings were in Napa. This is something not everyone can do. I'm not sure, but I'm told there are restrictions as to 'who' can get married in the Napa valley vineyards. Anyway, this one was at a family residence, roughly in the center of the Napa valley on a hill surrounded by vineyards. Nice views are cool.
So, the difficulty in writing a blog about cool stuff at wedding receptions can be that when you go to so many weddings, the details can start to become fuzzy. So can the roads if you've had a few to drink at the reception, which brings me to my first cool thing of this weekend....
When having a reception, say....at a location on a mountain, or a remote location of any kind, it's a great idea to have SHUTTLES! Yes. Limo's, buses, cars, whatever you can get a hold of; shuttling guests from a designated location (a parking lot downtown for instance) up to the party by 'designated' non-drinking drivers the a very cool and responsible thing to do.
Another good idea...Respect your vendors! Yes it's true, they are working for you. But guess what? Their attitude and willingness to make your special day can in fact make or break your special day. Another revelation...they are people too! Yes, it's true. They are not robots, nor are they truly happy to help you. Yes, they are happy and grateful to be working, but that doesn't make a person truly happy and willing to go out of their way to help you. Which do you want? A servant begrudgingly doing what they are paid to do, or a partner in making your special day totally awesome!?! Well, it's up to you. I see the former all the time, and it's never 'great'. I'll take the latter every time, because 99% of time, it's better all the time!
So did anything fun happen this weekend? YES! Jazz band. Besides having your party band for dancing and, well, partying....it is over the top to also have a jazzy band, concert quartet, or soloist for the earlier parts of your day (ceremony, dinner, speeches, etc...).
Some day I'll get around to offering my suggestions for finding all these great vendors, musicians, caterers and such. For now, just do your best (Jagger)!
