This past weekend I attended a wedding reception with my favorite type of entertainment set up: A live band, with a DJ filler (recorded music before, inbetween, and after band). A band is always 500% better than just a DJ or MC for engaging the party, keeping everyone entertained, and making sure the right things happen at the right time. And if need be, you have the DJ or MC for back up for those things and more. If you can only afford one, I say go with the live band. They usually have someone, or are willing to arrange someone, who can do any MC'ing neccessary.
Among other favorites were the Alice In Wonderland style crazy cake. This is when the tops of each layer are far from level (about a 20 degree slope) and each level is created to sit correctly on the level below. I don't know how they do it, I just know it looks outstanding and fun!
Lastly were the after dancing TACO'S! Boy, what a great idea. Who isn't famished by the end of an awesome reception? Of course, there are many variations on this; taco's, tostada's, whatever your favorite 'after a big night' snack. Then lastly, finishing off with to-go boxes..for either the late night snack or the array of deserts that are offered.
