Wine Auctions & Weddings

Another note on having your special day at the family compound (be it a ranch, vineyard, or your aunts suburban home). What can happen when you decide to have your wedding at the family residence? Many things of course, including your immediate next door neighbor having an equally large event (in this case, a wine auction) complete with a competing band! Tip number one this week: Apply for any necessary permits with your local government, and notify any and all neighbors of the date of your event. This will smooth things over with any grumps, and give anyone planning an event a chance to reconsider the date.

So, are you planning on having dancing at your reception? Did you spend bunch of money on a live band or a DJ? I never thought I'd have to mention this, but here goes...schedule and complete any and all tasks such as photos, meet and greet and fun secret girlfriend stuff before dinner and dancing! It is almost always, not by tradition but by natural instinct, the bridesmaids who get the dance party started. After dinner usually comes the dancing portion, but if the bride and her bridesmaids are off doing girly stuff, guess what? No dancing, just a band uncomfortably playing to an audience of seated guests. Lame. Equally as bad, is a cooky cousin or two having their way with the empty dance floor. Anyone else who may have been considering going out and getting things started is now reconsidering looking as dumb as the current spectacle on the floor. Anyway, this is your party and all your friends and family are here to celebrate with you. Your girlfriends will be around forever, your wedding reception is over in a couple of hours. So go on and party with your friends on the dance floor and enjoy that awesome band you've hired.

Rock on!
