Let's face it. Some weddings are great, some are...well....not. Yes I've been to both many times as I'm sure most have.
This past weekend I saw bits of both, at a couple different weddings, which happens all the time. I have to say, while I used to be of the opinion that this was a sham, I've realized what an important role the wedding planner is. No, you don't have to spend a fortune on one, you can simply designate someone you trust...
someone who is detail oriented, organized, cares about you, and would consider it an honor rather than a demotion from guest to vendor. Or hire someone. If you can't have this designated person, at the very least designate ahead of time what is truly critical and when it has to happen. Because you will run off schedule and short on time, you will want a plan made when you are not so emotionally caught up that reminds you what to cut and when.
Cupcakes. You know, I actually love the cupcake idea. Have you seen this yet? Individual cupcakes instead of a four foot tall four layer cake. What I don't like is cupcakes that aren't GREAT, then the only thing missing is.....yes, the cake cutting. Oh, there's usually some clever replacement, but let me tell you...Don't sacrifice a cake of some sort (even a personal sized cake for the happy couple only) and an actual cake cutting ceremony. Not only is it tradition, but it's a highlight of the reception, if not simply moment to break things up and enjoy those around you before re-taking your position as Dancing Queen (or king). And for goodness sake, don't spoil the idea with lame baking... have AWESOME cupcakes!
You know the old saying, 'just when I thought I've seen it all...' well, I'm starting to think that after a lot of weddings these days. This time in a very positive sense. I saw for the first time what I think was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen as the last group of guests were preparing to board the last shuttle. The bride and groom, instead of heading off to their honeymoon destination stepped back onto the dance floor for not just their last song but an entire last set of romantic songs played and sung just for them by a live band they had hand picked two years prior to this day. Beautiful. Romantic. Honest and true love.
Okay, wipe your eyes and let's sum it up...
A PLAN(NER)
AWESOME CUPCAKES

Take care and have a happy wedding,
