So, you've found the perfect location for your wedding and reception, complete with wedding planner and estate coordinator. STOP! The wrong people in charge can ruin your day. Take extra care to interview your planner and/or person who is in charge of the grounds where you will be hosting your most special day. Get a feel for these people and know that they have YOUR best interests at heart, not theirs. It's their job to 'sell' you on the property, but once you commit (deposit and contract) you are stuck with these people, and quite often it is their job that comes first (taking care of themselves and their property) rather than the quality of your special day.
What's this all about? Okay. This week's wedding was good intentioned and sweet, but uncomfortable for most. Anyone would tell you the bride and groom were two of the sweetest and good hearted people you would ever meet, as well as their carefully chosen wedding planner, but it ended with them rather than being properly communicated through the site coordinator. Yes folks, that's all it takes to spell disaster. This particular person had the power and determination to undermine nearly everything possible from making the shuttle and limo drivers drop people at the beginning of a hundred yards of gravel (imagine 4" heels) to making every vendor (those who serve you, and can make or break your pleasant evening) completely miserable. She did this in a way so that everyone present would see that she is in charge and is the final word.
All of this, for better or for worse, was totally unnoticed by the wedding party. Good for them. In fact at one point the groom told me he's "spared no expense to hire and take care of the best (vendors) in the area". I don't doubt that was his intention, however, most were left feeling quite disappointed and uncomfortable.
So, what the heck happened? Give me some examples!@! Believe me, I'm tempted to blacklist this person who brought a dark cloud to what should have been a glorious day. However, I've decided to remain anonymous and not get any more negative than I already have. My only concern is that I have not communicated the urgency of hiring the right people and left this open to interpretation (perhaps I'm over exaggerating). I can only emphasize, do not take this lightly. With any luck you will only have this day once. Do it right.
Best wishes,
